Another hole in the white privilege argument

June 26, 2012

Over at Oz Conservative, Mark Richardson highlights some fascinating stats on global economic development in an article about whiteness studies.

According to left liberal arguments, the economic success of Europeans has been based on exploiting other parts of the world, a process which began about 1550 with their colonial expansion into America and Asia.

However, there’s a big problem with this argument – Europe started pulling ahead of Asia as early as 1100 AD, 400 years before Europeans started conquering other parts of the world.

From what I’ve read of economic history, a major reason why Europe started to overtake Asia during the Middle Ages was labour scarcity. Europe’s less intensive style of agriculture and factors such as the Black Death meant that labour was a lot more expensive in Europe than Asia, so in Europe there was a much greater incentive to develop labour-saving technology. This is why Europeans in the Middle Ages were focusing more on things like water wheels and windmills and new types of ploughs, while East Asians were inventing more elite-orientated technologies like silk and porcelain.

Disadvantaged groups in western society

February 14, 2012

We hear a lot how women and minorities are disadvantaged in western society, but many of us politically incorrect types question this when we see so many women and minorities in business, media and government.

Here’s an alternative list of some of western society’s persecuted or excluded:

Red-headed males (and to a lesser extent blond women)

Right-wing males with arts degrees (think about it, how many do you see working in NGOs, the government or in the education system?)

Americans with engineering degrees (didn’t they say it was only low skilled factory jobs that were going to be outsourced?)

Blue collar working class Americans (no political representation, exposure to illegal competition and food stamps for compensation, no wonder they’re going down hill)

Anyone interested in nationalism (even vaguely nationalist homosexuals in obscure rock bands get the antifa treatment)

Alternative right wing intellectuals (ever hear Patrick Buchanan being interviewed about his bestselling books on public radio?)

Populist journalists (the lonely world of Lou Dobbs, oh wait a minute, hasn’t he been laid off?)

Libertarians who advocate freedom of association (you don’t hear much about Rand Paul these days, do you?)

Free-lance writers (people working for sub-third world wages shouldn’t have to pay taxes).

Scandinavian women in skimpy outfits*

*but only in Muslim areas, otherwise if they want to wear say, see-through hot pants in the Vatican, that’s fine.

Are you feelin’ the privilege?

January 24, 2012

Oz Conservative’s Mark Richardson has a good post exposing the increasingly outdated argument that white male’s enjoy a privileged position in today’s world.

White males are a rapidly decreasing percentage of the world’s wealthy. Not only do they have to share an increasing percentage of white wealth with white females (nearly 50 percent and rising), but in English-speaking countries, white males actually make less money than non-Asian minority males and females with comparable qualifications.

And lets not forget that many white males also live in middle-income parts of the world like Russia, Eastern Europe and South America, which are now poorer than much of East Asia. In the British Commonwealth for example, white Poles, Czechs, and Brazilians often fill low paid labouring jobs which many ‘oppressed’  non-white locals try to avoid.

Certainly a small percentage of white men and women do hold a lot of wealth, but that certainly doesn’t mean white people in general are either particularly wealthy, or have some undeserved privilege over other races.
